But will it last?
New Year resolutions can be like as Mary Poppins suggested , “piecrust promises. Easily made, easily broken.”
However if you are sticking to them then well done.
If you are beginning to falter then stick to it. It’s only normal to have doubts.
If you have given up then maybe you were too ambitious but no harm in trying again.
My number one tip when it comes to resolutions is this-
Don’t try to do it all by yourself. Get support it will make it a lot easier and when you can achieve one goal who is to say you can’t achieve another and another and another…
Years ago at a party I remember the conversation getting around to presents – you know which was the best , worst you received or indeed gave.
When it came to , let us just call him Harry, Harry said he once asked his girlfriend what would she like for Christmas. She replied that she didn’t need anything etc etc. However after much cajoling she eventually said ,
“Just get me something I don’t have”
So he got her a unicycle
They didn’t see another Christmas together.
Christmas is a time for giving and understanding. Take time out to enjoy the little things and hopefully the feelings will last long after the Christmas lights have been switched off.
Most people have a lucky number, right?
But do you know anyone who has a lucky letter?
I recently found an old copy of – THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH by Norton Juster
I picked it up and read it page to page, just couldn’t put it down. Yes it’s a kids book but it’s the lessons in life that the book gives that makes it relevant to the old kids on the block too.
So if your stuck, unmotivated, lacking direction in your place in the world, read the book it might, it might just open your eyes to what you already have.
Sometimes even when you think you have won an argument, guess what you haven’t.
A friend of mine told me something that made me think-
“What is a present ?” he asked , well given that Christmas has just gone then I guess it is a gift.
“What is another word for living in the here and now?” , a present?
“Yes” he said
So if you can see that the present moment, right here right now, is actually a gift ( a present) then why would you not appreciate it?
Sure it cost you nothing so go on absorb yourself in the present.
Christmas party time
Filled with dread
For sure my face
Will go bright red
A glass of wine
I feel the flush
Now I can’t look at you
Just thinking about it
Brings me down
My cheeks aglow
Like a circus clown
I’ll stay in the shadows
Be a quiet wallflower
Hopefully nobody will notice
Me getting redder by the hour
I’ve tried pills, potions
Herbs and voodoo
I can’t take no more
Please remove this hoodoo
Now I doubt I’ll ever make a career in poetry however this time of year can be extremely daunting for those who suffer from blushing. It is one of the most common client issue.
So I just want to send a little word to you all , enjoy yourself not matter what happens.
However if it is getting a bit too much then think about the process in your mind and remind your mind that you control it and you’ll decide what happens.
But just to let you know Bashful was my favourite out of the seven dwarves.
